HASBAT SCHOLARSHIPS

HASBAT AUSA SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

HASBAT  AUSA scholarships for the 2026-2027 academic year are due by March 31, 2026.

Each year HASBAT and AUSA award 5 academic scholarships to students from local high schools and universities.


Eligible students must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a full-time High School senior; or Must be a full-time upcoming freshmen, sophomore, junior college student 
  • Must major in an advanced technology degree including, but not limited to science, technology, engineering, or math
  • Must maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must be interested in pursuing a career in advanced technology field in the north Alabama area upon graduation

Save the Date: HASBAT Scholarship Awards Ceremony

Join us as we recognize the next generation of leaders in the defense and technology community. HASBAT will present the 2026 HASBAT Scholarship Awards during our April Membership Meeting on Thursday, April 16, from 7:00–8:30 AM at The Jackson Center in Huntsville.

Each year, HASBAT awards scholarships to outstanding students pursuing degrees in fields that support our nation’s defense and advanced technology industries. During this special meeting, we will celebrate this year’s scholarship recipients and their academic achievements.

Mark your calendar and plan to attend as we honor these exceptional students and their bright futures.

- Malia Chitwood, 2023-2024

My name is Malia Chitwood and I am going into my second year at Auburn University as a junior. I received the HASBAT & AUSA Scholarship from you last year. I wanted to thank you again for your faith in me and for providing me with the money to enable me to work towards being the person I aspire to be. Throughout the last year, I have thrived at Auburn. I am continuing with a major in mechanical engineering with a minor in Spanish and Business. I have maintained a 4.0 GPA as well as on the Dean's list through both semesters. Long term, I plan to continue at Auburn to obtain my Master's in Industrial and Systems Engineering. I am involved in a few clubs on campus, the most notable being Engineers Without Borders (EWB). The Auburn chapter of EWB focuses on water transportation and purification. This past May I had the amazing opportunity to travel with a group of eleven fellow EWB members to a small village in Guatemala. While there we implemented a water filtration and transportation system throughout their community. Through my Spanish classes, I had learned enough of the language to be able to talk and play with the kids. The children in the community would come out to help us build the water system every day. This was an amazing opportunity and I am excited to be more involved with EWB this upcoming year. This summer, I had an internship at Corvid Technologies in Huntsville, AL. During this internship, I performed computational analysis with their engineering team. I have enjoyed applying some of the material I learned in my courses to real-world problems. I am enjoying my schooling and looking forward to the start of a new year in just a few short weeks. Thank you again for all the financial help you provided, allowing me to have these amazing opportunities.
