    April Meeting Cancelled

    The April meeting of the NDIA Space and Missile Defense Working Group (SMDWG), Monday, April 22, has been cancelled. LTG Thurgood has been called to DC on Monday, April 22, and will not be available

    The April meeting of the NDIA Space and Missile Defense Working Group (SMDWG) will be held on Monday, April 22. Lockheed Martin will host our meeting at their facility located at 4800 Bradford Drive NW, Building 406 (photo map below. Enter building from the North parking lot. Do not enter the doors on the Bradford Drive side of the building.)

    Doors will open at 0800 hours for networking and our meeting will begin promptly at 0830.

    Our guest speaker will be Major General (P) Neil Thurgood. Director of Hypersonics, Directed Energy, Space and Rapid Acquisition, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army, Acquisition, Logistics and Technology.

    MDA plans to conduct a Laser Scaling Industry Day, including one-on-one discussions with interested parties. MDA in partnership with the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (OUSD) will hold a Laser Scaling Industry Day. The Laser Scaling Industry Day is scheduled for 23 April 2019 at MDA Headquarter, Fort Belvoir, VA. OUSD will present the overall approach for scaling development and contracting. MDA will present the Agency laser scaling unique needs and objectives, followed by an open question and answer (Q&A) session. The briefing and Q&A session are intended to set a common level of understanding of the expectations for the laser scaling effort and the associated challenges. Due to space considerations, participation is limited to no more than three (3) people from each responding company, business, or organization.

    If responders wish to participate in a one-on-one session with the Government after the briefing, a request must be made to Ms. Rachael Gillentine, rachael.gillentine.ctr@mda.mil or Mr. Harris Brown, harris.brown@mda.mil, via email no later than 17 April 2019. One-on-one sessions are intended to provide responders an opportunity to ask clarification questions on the RFI as it relates to their concept or approach. Sessions will be scheduled in blocks at the convenience of the Government. Each of the assigned one-on-one sessions will be limited to thirty minutes.

    Questions of a general and non-proprietary nature asked during one-on-one sessions that would enhance all responders’ understanding of Government requirements may be posted or emailed to all attendees (with corresponding Government responses).

    Details for registering and attending the Laser Scaling Industry Day are listed below.

    a. Registration: Send an email to Mr. Harris Brown, harris.brown@mda.mil no later than 17 April 2019. State your intent to attend the industry day and whether or not you want a one-on-one session. Provide the names of the people attending from your company, business, or organization. You will receive email instructions for getting to and accessing the MDA Headquarters.

    b. Date and Time: 23 April 2019, 9:00- 11:00 A.M. EDT (One-on-one sessions 12:00 to 5:00 P.M.)

    c. Location and Check-in:

    i. MDA Headquarters, 5700 18th Street, Building 245, Fort Belvoir, VA 22060-5573

    ii. Security Check-in at the lobby Security Desk

    iii. Event Sign-in & Briefing Location: Management Information Center

    d. Visitor Request Instructions: All confirmed attendees for Industry Day must send their visit and clearance request no later than 17 April 2019. The Joint Personnel Adjudication System (JPAS) is the preferred method for companies and organizations to submit visit requests. Direct questions regarding these procedures to Mr. Kyle Tadesse, MDA Visitor Control at 571-231-8249 or email Kyle.Tadesse.ctr@mda.mil and Cc acc@mda.mil. The following information must be included in all incoming Visit Authorization Requests (VAR)/Visit Authorization Letters (VAL):

    i. From line which includes the name of the organization, address, phone number, and fax number of sender.

    ii. Visitor’s full name (Last, First, MN/MI), SSN, birth date, place of birth, and citizenship

    iii. Clearance level, date clearance issued, type and date of investigation and granting organization

    iv. Date/dates of visit

    v. Purpose of visit: Laser Scaling Industry Day

    vi. MDA Government POC: Dr. Joseph Bonometti, DVL Chief Engineer, 505-853-4324

    vii. Contractors must also include their Facility Clearance Code (Cage #) and the contract number for the contract under which the visit is being conducted

    viii. VAR/VAL must be signed by the Security Manager or Facility Security Officer (FSO) or representative verifying and certifying the clearance information

    viii. Send request through JPAS SMO “DDAAU4”. (Contractors, please include the contract number by using the phone number space.)
